Field to Fiction
Method

Field to Fiction is based on small collaborations between anthropologists and fiction writers.

Anthropologists contribute material from their work —field notes, published texts, interviews, or observations. Writers respond by developing a piece of fiction that emerges from this material.

Collaborations may involve conversations, informal meetings, and other exchanges between participants as the work develops.

The process does not aim to summarise or translate research directly. Instead, it explores how ethnographic situations, voices, and tensions can be expressed in a fictional form.

Each collaboration is published as a Field File, documenting source material, fiction, and a brief reflection on the process.
